Eintracht Frankfurt were without their first-choice goalkeeper for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Ajax, with Kevin Trapp ruled out with a shin injury.
And, as Eintracht coach Dino Toppmöller announced after his side’s 4-1 win, Kaua Santos will again deputise for Trapp against VfL Bochum on Sunday.
“We’ll have to see about Kevin. He won’t be available on Sunday either,” Toppmöller said at his post-match press conference.
“He’s been gridding his teeth over the last few weeks because he’s a player with incredible ambition.
“He always wants to be on the pitch, but the pain was getting worse and worse. I took the decision not to risk anything.
“We also have confidence in (Kaua) Santos, and he – like everyone else – has done very well and helped us reach the (Europa League) quarter-finals.”
